Ask the Expert - Torque Optimization for Interior Permanent Magnet Machines

Duration: 60 minutes

When engineers are faced with the task of designing an electrical machine for a particular application it is advantageous to start with an existing design and modify it to meet the design requirements. When this is not feasible, engineers most likely will use the finite element method (FEM) to help design the new machine that meets customer requirements. Employing the FEM usually involves an iterative process that uses some type of optimization. This optimization may come from the engineers knowledge of electric machine design through years of experience, or can it can be accomplished through specific optimization algorithms.

This recording will show how to make this iterative-optimization process as short as possible, which in turn reduces the development cycle time, increases the likelihood to be first to market, and keeps design costs at a minimum. All of this leads to increased revenue for the company. The application used to demonstrate this optimization process is an interior permanent magnet machine.
