Engineering Simulation Solutions for the Oil and Gas Industry: Flow Assurance

Duration: 60 minutes

Flow assurance ensures the success of the fluid journey from reservoir to topsides. Understanding the concept helps to ensure that any development plan is technically viable and designed for optimal operations; this is particularly critical for deep water energy production because of the high pressures and low temperatures involved. This recording will give an overview of the multiphase flow regimes expected and their implication on flow measurement, and where ANSYS CAE solutions can be used to predict where these regimes occur and what their likely implication is on safe, reliable, production.

Flow assurance is complex and time consuming as it involves transient multiphase simulation with many deposits, such as gas hydrates, asphaltene, wax, scale and naphthenates as well as gas bubbles and hydrocarbon droplets. To further complicate matters most reservoirs also produce sand and water. It is these unknowns that present the greatest challenge to the engineers responsible for measuring and controlling the flow from a well. With ANSYS CFD simulation software, these complex fluid flow regimes can be better understood, their onset predicted and countermeasures planned in advance.
