Ask the Expert - Linking HFSS to ANSYS Mechanical for Thermal Applications

With the 12.1 release of ANSYS, a linkage between the Thermal and Stress solvers to HFSS was made available. Once the model and materials have been shared between the tools, boundary conditions, heat sources and structural conditions initialized, the mapping of the electromagnetic losses are established. ANSYS will then automatically extract the surface and volume losses from HFSS, and map them to the thermal and stress mesh, producing the 3-D temperature and stress distributions within the model.

This recording will illustrate this process by using common RF and Microwave examples, and instruct the user on best practices for ensuring accurate thermal and structural simulations.
