Computational models for dilute multiphase flows make it possible to analyze the performance of applications such as; sprays, atomizers, fuel injectors, dryers, cyclones or combustors. These models can also be used to determine residence time distribution or to visualize the flow field. Discrete Particle Models (Langrangian particle tracking technique) available in ANSYS FLUENT and ANSYS CFX are popular because of their comprehensive nature, user friendliness and straightforward customization. Nevertheless, when coupled with reactions, phase change, and/or atomization physics, modeling of such flows can become a tough challenge. Using several examples from various industries, we will demonstrate how our experts resolved difficulties associated with modeling dilute particulate flows.
